Lent ……. Day Forty-Three

Lent ……. Day Forty-Three

“How will this ‘story of a little white flower’ come to an end?…I don’t know, but what I am certain about is that God’s Mercy will accompany her always.” (Story of a Soul, 181)
St. Therese of Lisieux

How do most movies end?   With our hero riding off into the sunset!   We (okay, maybe just I assume) assume that they go off to save the next town or damsel in distress and we leave the theater with a smile and empty pockets.

Movies allow us to look into our lives and wonder what would we do in that situation.  They let us reflect upon our own character.   And how we could, in effect, effect the outcome.  The best recent movie I have seen was Gran Torino with Clint Eastwood playing the somewhat grumpy, fatherly hero to the kid next door.  Remember how it ended?   Clint reached for his lighter ( which the thugs thought was a gun) and started to recite ” Hail Mary, full of grace…”  he was shot and fell with his arms out – like Christ on the cross.    What we know is that God’s mercy will accompany his character!

Where will you end?  How will it end?  None of us know and none of us should judge you – but we do know that God’s mercy is always there, always with us.  His Grace, Love and Mercy are free to us and we have a better chance if we accept it and acknowledge it.  Open your heart, your eyes and your mind to God’s graces, love and mercy!!
